NOTE that on April 22nd, Earth Day 2010, Lisa P. Jackson, EPA’s Administrator (a cabinet level position, btw) was doing Mother Earth’s Work on the David Letterman show. Fun! But no mention of the Great 2010 Oil Spill that had already released perhaps 10,000 BARRELS of oil into the Gulf of Mexico. That’s approximately half a million gallons.
FURTHER NOTE that she appeared on the Jon Stewart show… on April 26th… after over 30,000 barrels of crude oil – 1 1/2 MILLION gallons had hit the gulf. And – what do you know? Still NO MENTION of perhaps the greatest environmental and economic disaster in decades.
At least the EPA finally got vocal on twitter on April 30th. (See below.)
By the way, the EPA has a Research Facility near Pensacola, right on the gulf in Gulf Breeze, FL. And here’s a snippet about that facility – ironic, eh?
The Gulf Breeze laboratory is a primary research facility of the EPA National Health and Environmental Effects Research Laboratory under the Office of Research and Development (ORD). The Gulf Ecology Division on Sabine Island conducts research on the impact of toxic chemicals and pesticides on marine, estuarine, and wetland organisms and communities; monitors and assesses the chemical and biological status of marine and estuarine systems; predicts the ecological effects of the release of genetically altered organisms; and develops microbial strategies to degrade toxic chemicals in the environment.
